Veritas

Located a few steps off the beaten path of Connecticut Ave., Veritas continues to be one of the standouts in the DC wine bar scene. Opened by the same owners as Enology, this intimate spot has some of the most knowledgeable wait staff around and a wine selection that is extensive and interesting. No meals are served here but the cheese, charcuterie, and chocolates should keep your appetite in check. Veritas is on the smaller side so there can be waits on the weekend and the noise level can be a distraction for some.

Cost – $$

Service – B
I have had lackluster service a couple of times but for the most part, the staff is friendly and knowledgable. Wine recommendations and pairings have almost always been on point.

Food – B
As I mentioned above, the food consists of pretty good selection of cheese, charcuterie and chocolate. Portions may be viewed as small for some and the accompanying bread can use a slight upgrade.

Decor – A
The dark wood and brick walls mixes beautifully despite the low ceilings and smaller space. Definitely a place to bring those you want to impress.

Feel – A-
Veritas is a good balance of casual and intimate. The dark lighting sets a somewhat of a swanky tone but the upbeat vibe of the patrons and staff and chatty noise level keeps the mood fun. A great place to grab a drink while figuring out the next stop.  There is also a patio out front for sipping wine on the warmer days.

Veritas is located at 2031 Florida Ave NW. They can be reached at (202) 265-6270.

What’s the Buzz:

September 28, 2007 – Veritas (DC Gastronome) – I had the pleasure of stopping by Veritas, a new wine bar in Dupont, this week. The location is on the corner of Connecticut and Florida Streets, just around the corner from The Russia House. It’s almost like entering a bit of a hideaway as the space is right at street level and just a little hidden.. Full article…
