Al Tiramisu

Although I love Italian Food, having had a slew of mediocre experiences over the past few years has really pushed Italian cuisine down on my list of preferences when eating out. So when I finally decided to try a new place, I tempered my expectations and chose Al Tiramisu in Dupont and I was glad I did. Al Tiramisu is a cozy neighborhood type restaurant which like it’s sister establishment, Al Crostini, serves authentic Italian cuisine and claims to import 90% of the ingredients, 100% of the seafood, and 100% of the wine from Italy. That sounds pretty authentic to me.

Cost – $$

Service – A-
The wait staff here was very helpful, Italian and friendly. All of the recommendations, especially the wine, were spot on.

Food – A-
The food was a reminder of why I liked Italian food so much. Nothing was overly complicated, just fresh and delicious fare the way I like it. The one thing of note is that they don’t offer too many bottles of wine under $60 which may be an issue for some.

Decor -B-
The decor is in line with an unpretentious restaurant that want the focus to be on the food. The converted rowhouse gives the impression of having a meal in a family dining room complete with the eclectic art.

Feel – B+
The restaurant itself is on the small side and the tables are a little crowded, but I think it adds the authenticity and friendly environment. I would definitely consider it intimate in a good way for the most part but on a crowded night, I can imagine the place taking on more of an upbeat and joyful tone.

Al Tiramisu is located at 2014 P Street NW. They can be reached at (202) 467-4466.
