The Muse Lounge

I had seen The Muse Lounge & Nightclub popping up on people’s Facebook newsfeeds (I’m so 2008) so last weekend I decided it was time to check out the venue.  Built on the ashes of the somewhat amusing, very cheesy, ultimately unsuccessful Coyote Ugly, Muse Lounge has a solid ownership group with a wealth of experience in building solid clubs in DC.

Cost – $$$

Service – B+
We ordered drinks at the first and second floor bars and I found the bartenders to be friendly and prompt. I spent a minute or so chatting with the second floor bartender and found the conversation to be fairly amusing. I don’t know if I’d refer to the Go-Go dancers in the ‘service’ category but it’s worth mentioning that they were of a high caliber.

Food – ?

Decor – B
The color-scheme and neon paneling reminded me a bit of Midtown Lounge however there is a certain visual energy that sets Muse apart, a result of the generous distribution of flat screens throughout the venue, which actually reminds me a bit of Tattoo. They have done a good job differentiating the venue from its predecessor and creating a more upscale atmosphere and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with the rooftop once the weather starts to turn.

Feel – B+
As I mentioned before, the management has done a good job creating an atmosphere that is a 180 degree shift from Coyote Ugly. The general feel in the place reminds me a bit of MCCXXIII, which is a good thing because that venue has drawn consistent crowds for a long time. Like MCCXXIII, the crowd is relatively heterogeneous, always a plus in my book, with a bit more of an Asian skew. On the whole, the crowd is young and energetic and the venue is definitely worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood.

The Muse is located at 717 6th St NW. They can be reached at (202) 842-9800.
